Deborah Jacobs is the Director of the Global Libraries program which is a special initiative of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Here she describes the work and aims of the Global Libraries program and of the Peer Learning Meeting taking place in Helsinki. She also tells of her experience in achieving a new central library for the city of Seattle when she served as City Librarian for the Seattle Public Library.
