How is digitalisation changing the daily life and future of public libraries? What should we bear in mind when planning for the future of libraries in the digital world? Get inspired by an online lecture by Luke Swarthout, an expert in digital practices at the New York Public Library, broadcast live from New York on March 22, 2021.
Mr. Swarthout is the Digital Policy Director of the New York Public Library (NYPL). He presents some of the challenges and best practices for living and evolving in the digital era. The theme of the lecture is “Move slow and mend things – digital Transformation in a public sector institution”.
The presentation by Swarthout is preceded by a brief introduction by Suvi Sivulainen, the manager of Digital media services project. After his ca 30-minute presentation, Mr. Swarthout answers a few questions from the audience.
The New York Public Library has its own digital department, NYPL Digital, where Swarthout is also employed. The department has been working on the challenges of the digital library by, among other things, developing the open source Library Simplified platform and, the Simply E service that runs alongside it.
